3 Kinds of Bristle Mixture For Brushes
3 kinds of Bristle Mixture for Paint Brushes
For paint brush manufacturers, the quality of filling material is one of the most important factors affecting paint pick-up, paint release, softness, resilience, and final painting performance.
Bristle mixture is a practical solution that combines natural pig bristle with synthetic brush filament. It can help customers balance painting performance, softness, elasticity, and cost. According to different brush types and market requirements, we can adjust the pig bristle percentage, filament percentage, length, color, and softness.
Our factory has long experience in both boiled pig bristle and synthetic brush filament. More importantly, we use different mixing machines and production methods according to the customer’s actual product requirements, instead of using only one fixed method for all orders.
1. Small Mixing Machine
The first type is a small mixing machine.
This machine is suitable for bristle mixture materials where the pig bristle has already been carefully processed by workers, especially when there are very few hooked hairs. Normally, this method is suitable when the pig bristle percentage is below 50%.
If the pig bristle content is too high, it is more difficult to mix evenly. The common length range is around 51–83 mm. The higher the pig bristle percentage and the longer the material length, the longer the mixing time will be.
This method is more suitable for small quantity orders and flexible customized production. We also often use this machine for filament-to-filament mixing. One advantage is that the material normally has very few reversed-root hairs.
However, compared with large professional mixing machines, the uniformity is not as strong. The production time is longer, and there may be slight differences in length and distribution.

2. Large Professional Mixing Machine
The second type is our large professional mixing machine. This machine is specially used for pure pig bristle and bristle mixture materials.
It can handle pig bristle content from 10% to 100%, with common lengths from 38–70 mm. For most bristle mixture orders, especially large quantity orders, we usually choose this machine.
The main advantage is that the mixing is more uniform, the length is more consistent, and the material composition is more stable. It is especially suitable for colored bristle mixture and large-batch production.
For paint brush manufacturers who need stable quality from batch to batch, this is normally our preferred production method.
We also pay strong attention to raw material selection. We purchase high-quality pig bristle raw material with good component structure, and we avoid materials with too many short hairs, waste hairs, or impurities.
Before mixing, our workers process and inspect the bristle carefully to reduce hooked hairs and reversed-root hairs. Our workers have more than 30 years of experience in pig bristle processing, so they understand how to handle the material properly.
With experienced workers, strict quality control, and good production management, our bristle mixture can achieve better uniformity, fewer hooked hairs, lower reversed-root hair rate, and better tip softness compared with ordinary material.

3. Small Rotary Mixing Machine
The third type is a small rotary mixing machine. This is one of the traditional methods for producing bristle mixture materials.
At present, we mainly use this method for longer sizes, especially above 76 mm.
Compared with the first small mixing machine, this rotary machine can achieve better mixing uniformity and shorter mixing time. It is suitable for longer bristle mixture materials and specific customized requirements.
Because this process requires more manual operation, the labor cost is higher. Also, due to the nature of manual production, there may still be a certain reversed-root hair rate.

Choosing the Right Mixing Method
Different paint brushes require different bristle mixture solutions. The best mixing method depends on the brush type, material length, pig bristle percentage, order quantity, softness requirement, and target painting performance.
For small quantity or special customized orders, we may choose a small mixing machine. For large quantity and stable quality requirements, we normally use our large professional mixing machine. For longer sizes above 76 mm, we may choose the rotary mixing method.
Our goal is to help paint brush manufacturers choose the most suitable bristle mixture material, not only to reduce cost, but also to improve brush performance.
With our experience in boiled pig bristle, synthetic brush filament, and bristle mixture production, we can provide customized bristle mixture solutions with stable quality, good paint pick-up and release, better softness, and reliable performance.
